Community Service

In the Upper School...

The spirit of volunteering is a core upper school value. Although upper school students are not required to participate in community service, the vast majority do. Community service projects give students the opportunity to more fully comprehend the needs of others and to make positive contributions to their community.  Community service projects are carried out by each class throughout the school year.  Additional projects by individuals or groups are encouraged.

In the Middle School...

Our aim  is to foster  the habit of service.  Students and teachers work together on community service projects such as feeding the homeless, visiting the elderly in retirement facilities, providing for the needy during the holiday season, and helping to support the charitable work of the Eblen Foundation.

Middle School students are also encouraged to participate individually in other community service activities.  The Student Council established a Community Service Award to honor those students who contribute at least 35 hours to the service of others outside the normal school day.  The Middle School Community Service Committee seeks opportunities for community service and makes decisions regarding the award.  Students who submit hours must do so in writing.  The form may be obtained from the Middle School Administrative Assistant. The deadline for submitting community service forms will be announced to students each spring with reminders.
