Quick Pix As always, it has been a busy week at Carolina Day.
These first two photos come from Robbie Francis's Key School talents class in "Lego Robotics." Students have been enjoying the creative challenge of designing, building, and testing various robotic devices. Mr. Francis is hoping they can come up with a "grading machine."
Yesterday, the Autumn Players performed a readers' theatre production of a couple of O Henry short stories for our sixth graders. "The Gift of the Magi" was one of those. Students have been studying the short story genre and the O Henry connection to Asheville. The Autumn Players came to us as an outreach of the Asheville Community Theatre. Click for more information on this program.
Both of these first graders happen to be named Elizabeth. And both just happened to be wearing the same sweater last week. They say it wasn't planned.
Youngblood Haske, dad of two CDS students and a professional bike expert, was on hand yesterday to show the middle school exploratory biking group how to change a flat and handle other routine bike maintenance.
PK, 1st, and 2nd graders were thrilled last week when author Donna Koppelman came to CDS to read "Major Bear at the Grove Park Inn." Major Bear is the Grove Park's mascot and he made a surprise appearance. Students were also introduced to Laney Layton, the book's illustrator.
Sana Efird dons another hat (though the hat isn't visible) as she provides some additional music practice for two Key School soloists in the upcoming Lower School-Key School Holiday Concert.
Zack Lemann, AKA "the Bug Man," has continued making his rounds and wowing his audiences introducing them to the wonderful world of bugs. Here Zack is shown introducing his six- and eight-legged friends to a group of Key School students. Zack is a professional with the Insectorium, a part of the Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans. He and his family have been a part of Carolina Day since the Hurricane Katrina evacuation. We're happy to have had them as part of our school community. Click for more information on the Audubon Nature Institute.
And finally, these sophomores were also running their own science class. They were working on measurements and volume--studying just how much cubic space a locker would hold. (Or, so they said.)
