As always, it has been a busy few days at Carolina Day.
Here's just a sampling of some of what you might have missed.

Spirit Week concluded Friday with all of the big games against Asheville School. Students in all divisions were decked out in red & blue for the big day.

Fall Family Night was a big success. In this photo, John Pfaff gives co-chair Missy Sullivan a little extra encouragement. It's not easy planning a party for over 1,000 guests! Missy and co-chair Lynette Attwood worked countless hours before, during, and after the big event to make it happen. Thanks very much for a great afternoon and evening.

Last Friday was also Appalachian Day in the first grade. Kids came dressed in old-fashioned clothing and participated in old-timey events.

The third graders are always happy to see the photographer show up unannounced. This group showed me how they feed their African dwarf frogs.

The fifth grade's Carolina Kids' News program is well underway with students already hitting their beats conducting interviews and scooping out the news. These four are the lucky official CKN photographers.

The ninth graders left yesterday for their three-day backpacking trip into various parts of Pisgah National Forest. In addition to being an incredible team-building experience--it also becomes an important character-building experience as well. Students learn what it's like to live with a little less and depend on each other a little more. They find they can survive without indoor plumbing, without a microwave, without flat-screen TV, and without their cell phones. They'll be home tomorrow with adventures to share.

The eighth graders participated in a community service project on Monday afternoon. They did a clean-up of a section of the French Broad River. RiverLink sponsored the program and appreciates our students and staff for removing hundreds of pounds of debris.

There was even a notice about their efforts in today's Asheville Citizen-Times.

This morning the kindergarten classes combined science and music with a choreographed production showing how the planets revolve around the sun.

And you'll be glad to know that this young man was Pluto showing that we still believe in that planet. Well, at least for today!

Of course, this wonderful science lesson concluded with a song.

Lower school music teacher Jane Corbin conducts the pageantry from the sidelines.

As today concludes, the second through fifth graders are outside participating in Fall Fitness Day. They're having a blast enjoying low-key competition in a variety of events.

Parting Snaps...

You've got to love this sixth grader's t-shirt. It says, "It seemed like a good idea at the time."

Upper school lunch bunch.

Pre-kindergarten kids in action.

Fourth graders in art class.

And finally, a rite of passage. New braces for these sixth-grade boys.
