Quick Pix As always, it has been a busy few days at Carolina Day. The Key School students are enjoying another round of Talents. Each student chooses a high-interest subject and explores a whole new world of possibilities. Mrs. Perez is shown leading her Dr. Know-it-All class as they attempt to unravel the secret formula behind Cola-Cola.
This scientist decided that a little more sugar was needed. In the end, the students were satisfied that the Coke company's secret formula was still a secret.
Mrs. Evans had her own Talents class out in the hall. Her group was enjoying learning to play a variety of logic games. Here kids got to stretch their brains while having a good time.
This Friday night (February 9) is the Lower School's Family Dance. Students and their parents are invited to come out and let their hair down. These fourth graders are shown practicing with a real-live dance instructor. All lower school PE classes have been experiencing a dance unit the past few weeks with Coach Southern - also a real-live dance instructor.
Upper school students spent a little time yesterday in a health and fitness seminar with guest instructors. Dr. Jeffrey Graham and Sandra Buchanan lead discussions in a variety of healthy living topics.
The middle school kids are always about motion--and it helps when there's a pep rally to give them just a little extra incentive.
The gym was rocking yesterday afternoon. There was shouting, screaming, stomping, and general mayhem and shenanigans. And that was just from the teachers! Willie the Wildcat made an appearance and helped throw candy to the frantically scrambling spectators.
The various middle school winter sports teams were introduced. Here's the girls basketball team.
and introducing the middle school members of the varsity swim team...
and the boys basketball team.
Next came some rounds of friendly spirit-inducing games. In the first game, the intramural teams sent up various members in a food-eating-fast relay. Each team had to send someone up to eat one particular item out of a prepared lunch bag. Each student could choose what to eat, but had to finish all of it and display an empty mouth in front of the judges before running back and tagging the next competitor. The lunch bag contained a full can of soda, a big peanut butter & jelly sandwich, some cookies, some kind of candy, and a banana. It was fun to watch, but this photographer was feeling a little queasy after this contest and he left before taking any more photos.
Parting Snaps... These upper school girls were enjoying a little chat in the upper school foyer.
and these girls were studying.
and these fifth graders took a moment away from participating in the 100-Mile Club to pose for the photographer--who was still queasy from watching the middle schoolers gorge themselves. The 100-Mile Club is program for third through fifth graders who challenge themselves to walk or run 100 miles during this time of year. Each successful member gets recognized at the Lower School Commendations Ceremony held in May.
