Quick Pix As always, it has been a busy few days at Carolina Day. Key School fifth graders have been working very hard to create these incredible pictures of animals. I imagine these students would be happy to do a piece of art for your office or home. All of the Key students are enjoying their new art classroom.
The eighth graders enjoyed a school-day trip to Wolf Laurel Ski Resort last week. They were wide awake going up there and bushed coming back. Many students had never tried skiing before. It was a wonderful team-building experience.
The sixth graders invited their parents and others to come and see their family history scrapbooks. The family history scrapbook is a middle school curriculum tradition that at first strikes fear into students and parents alike. But in the end, the students produce incredible works to be cherished forever. There are even tasty treats to help celebrate the culmination of months worth of work and years of history in the making.
Yesterday was not just another exciting day on campus. Everyone was in a party mode--from the youngest pre-kindergartner on up. Fourth grade teacher Grace Nichols shows off this flower-filled boot. You have to know Grace to know how well the shoe fits!
Students weren't the only ones partying. The Faculty & Staff Appreciation Committee of the Parent Council hosted a wonderful luncheon for the entire faculty and staff. Parent volunteers watched the students as the teachers got to have a quiet and restful lunch--something that doesn't happen very often.
Thanks so much to Peggy Partin and her hardworking committee for the event.
Now to a few student celebrations. The second grade held their annual Valentine's Day Sock Hop yesterday. The room was filled with girls in poodle skirts and boys in slicked-back hair.
And the room went wild. Can you guess what these guys are dancing to?
It's "Y-M-C-A" - not exactly a 50's song, but close enough.
Trains were a common scene with the boys.
The Twist was a popular dance.
And the soda shoppe was kept very busy.
And finally, this guy had all the right moves.
Pam Haynes and several Key parents helped the Key with a Buddy Valentine's Day gathering of all of the Key students. The kids decorated cookies with their buddies.
The Upper School was treated to a visit from these Cupids who ran throughout the school throwing candy everywhere.
And in the fifth grade, this student wasn't going to miss out on the treats from the chocolate fountain at his class party. But with two broken arms, he needed a little help with feeding.
These first graders were playing a little Valentine's bingo. Don't worry, they had their chance to be a little rowdy later in the day.
Last night was opening night for Grease. The upper school continues their tradition of presenting a musical each year--and this is one of their best! Grease continues tonight and Friday night with the curtain rising at 7 P.M. Come out and see some of your favorite characters and hear some of your favorite songs.
