Quick Pix As always, it has been a busy couple of weeks at Carolina Day. Before the students arrived, teachers were busy preparing for the exciting year ahead. All faculty and staff spent a day at Lake Logan Conference Center getting to know each other and setting goals for the year ahead. In this photo, new Key School teacher Matthew Buchanan is introduced by his mentor, Robbie Francis.
Before the new seniors found their lockers, last year's Class of 2006 had a Farewell Fiesta at the home of Bev and Joe Sgro. It was a wonderful chance to enjoy a few more moments of friendship before heading to a wide assortment of colleges.
New middle school students arrived on campus a few days before the official start of school for their orientation. They participated in team-building experiences designed to help them get to know each other a little better. By now, they're old friends. Today the entire middle school heads off to camp for an overnight experience.
Over half of the new fifth-grade class came to school early to get a jump on learning to be news reporters for Carolina Kids' News. This crew got photographed with Mark Levin. The crew you didn't see was luckier. They made an appearance on the Never Stop Learning segment on WLOS-TV. Host Tammy Watford has promised to return to CDS to discuss her life as a journalist. This will be the 14th year of a lower school newspaper published by the fifth grade.
Introducing the new seniors, the Carolina Day Class of 2007, as they gathered around the bell in the lower school courtyard before Opening Convocation.
Each senior rang the bell on his or her way up to the opening ceremony. The next time they ring this bell will be minutes prior to their commencement in late May. It will be here before you know it.
Upper school student body president Clayton Armstrong called the ceremony to order.
At the conclusion of the event, the seniors led the way out as a senior privilege.
Classes were in full swing within a day. These debate students were practicing extemporaneous speaking by introducing each other. They are already preparing for a busy debate season.
Some of the debate class members give an approving look.
The fourth and fifth graders from the Key School had a blast on their overnight experience this week.
Click to see a slide show from the Key's overnight trip. Can you pick out the birthday girl in this PK group? They were celebrating this big event yesterday.
This group of fifth graders prepares to raise the flag. This has been a morning tradition for the fifth graders for years.
