Quick Pix As always, it has been a busy few days at Carolina Day. It was "book talk" day in the Key School a few days ago. Students enjoyed illustrating their book reports with really neat props.
Upper school biology students were enjoying some hands-on science. I'll spare you the details, but they learned a lot!
The fifth graders have been busy fixing up the butterfly garden in the Lower School. Each year's fifth-grade class has the responsibility of maintaining this beautiful spot on our campus.
Middle school teacher David Broshar paid a visit to both first grades to read a special story to the students. They loved it and so did Mr. Broshar.
Middle school students at the Key have spent several weeks studying the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. The students also focused on local issues. Here teacher Concha Wyatt discusses protocol for their special visitor.
Asheville Mayor Terry Bellamy came to talk to and with the Key middle school students. Students had prepared excellent thought-provoking questions that were aptly handled by Mayor Bellamy.
After the visit, Mayor Bellamy posed for a photo with all of the Key middle school students.
It was a beautiful day for golf on Monday as the Carolina Day varsity team joined ten other teams for the Buncombe County championship at Broadmoor Country Club.
The upper school math team once again brought home the first-place trophy in the Western North Carolina regional math competition held last week at Western Carolina University. This was the third straight first-place finish for CDS. Our math team holds a true dynasty in this competition having won first place ten times and second place four times during the last fourteen years. Twenty-eight schools brought over 500 students to this year's competition. (There is one impostor in this group photo!)
Alison Perez is teaching a speech class to third graders as part of the Talents program at the Key School. Kids are working with drums while others are dancing to the poetry of Langston Hughes.
The upper school Odyssey of the Mind team performed their competition piece for their peers before heading to the state competition. Their skit was loosely based on the story of the Three Blind Mice.
Upper school sponsored spirit week all this week and Tuesday was "dress up like next year's dress code" week. These students look pretty nice, don't you think?
