State Track Info

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

The Cats participated in the NCISAA 2A State Championships this past weekend in Charlotte, NC. The Cats entered runners and throwers in the 3200m, 1600m, 400m, shot, and discus.

Friday

The team arrived at Johnson C. Smith University and we were all impressed with the campus and the track facility. If there’s a better view of the Charlotte skyline, please show us. The track is a fast track - a carpet like surface rolled over asphalt.

Lots of impressive looking teams milling around as the meet began. Our throwers headed down to the pits, warmed-up, and let it fly. Some good throws by the Cats, but nothing exceptional - our throwers have improved greatly over the season, with each meet we’ve gained confidence. The Cats left the pits without knowing their final throw distances - the officials were under strict instructions not to share distances with participants. So, we’re still waiting for those.

Upon returning to the stadium, our sole 400m entrant warmed-up for her race. The 400m is a tough race. Looking around, you could tell this group was fast. Our runner gave it her all, but the competition was too tough.

As evening began to fall, the call was made for the 3200m. Our runners, two guys and two girls warmed up ( one of our runners had been in Charleston on a class trip all day - he had to be tired ) for the event. The Cats have always been successsful in the 3200m and our performances this evening solidified our standing in the running community as a quaility program with quality student-athletes. Our two boys finish in the top 12 and our two girls finish in the top 5.

Saturday morning the team arrived at the stadium and immediately our only entrant in the girls shot was called to her event. After three throws - with officials not divulging distances - we were done. We suspect we finished in the lower quarter of throws, but we will see.

As the day heated up, our runners in the 1600m began their pre-race routines of stretching and jogging. We entered 4 girls in the 1600m and 1 boy.

Our girls ran very well as did our only boy entrant - we were very proud of our team and the way they pulled for each other.

Congratulations to the members of this years track team - good things ahead for this group!

We’ll post final times as soon as they arrive - we hope shortly.
