Student-Athletes to Evaluate Coaches

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Beginning this week, student-athletes  will have the opportunity to evaluate their experinces during the recently completed winter athletic season. A brain-child of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, these evaluations serve as a valuable tool for our coaches, student-athletes, and administrators.

Team Evaluations To Be Sent Out

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Team evaluations will be sent out this week to the parents of all or student-athletes that participated in our winter offerings. The evaluations are used by the athletic department and coaching staff in their end of season review(s) for each sport. We ask that all evaluations be returned to the athletic department as soon as possible. Please note that all evaluations should be anonymous. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Carolina Day School Athletic Department.

Season Over

Friday, February 15th, 2008

The Cats hit the hardwood yesterday in the first round of the CAA basketball tournament. The Cats both faced the Griffins of Spartanburg Day - the Griffins and the Cats have a history of historic match-ups with the Griffins and yesterday was no exception to the norm.

On our womens side, the Cats jumped out to an early lead behind the leadership of our seniors. The Cats led by one at the half, 24-23, and by 4 as the third quarter ended. The Cats continued to control the game and led by 5 with 58 seconds to go. At this point, it looked as if the Cats were moving on to the next round…unfortunately, as the old saying goes, don’t count your chickens until they hatch. A few turnovers here, free throws missed, and important 3’s made by the Griffins… Cats lose, 56-52.

The boys know they were in for a difficult game against the Griffins. The Griffins had beaten the Cats in their two regular season match-ups by comfortable margins. In the first half, the Cats let it be known that tonight’s match-up would be a good one. At the end of the first quarter, the Cats trailed by 7 at 17-10. The second quarter saw the Cats slow it down and win the quarter, 9-5, with their deliberate style - Cats trailed at the break by a score of 22-19.  The teams took the floor and the Griffins jumped out in their very effective 1-3-1 half court trap which the Cats had great difficulty breaking. The Griffins outscored the Cats by a score of 23-10 in the quarter to gain control of the contest- Griffins win 62-47.

Cats, we’re all proud of your accomplishments this year and look forward to what the future holds for the program.

Cats Split at Spartanburg Day

Monday, February 11th, 2008

The Varsity Boys and Girls traveled to Spartnaburg Day on Friday in search of victories. The Lady Cats faced a team in the Lady Griffins that they had lost to earlier this season - revenge was on their mind as they tipped off. The game went back and forth with both teams playing well. Heading to the 4th quarter it appeared as if neither team was able to find room for separation. But, the Cats pulled ahead for good behind a solid team effort - Cats win, 43-40.

On the boy’s side, the Cats knew they were in for a battle against the Griffins, especially on a night they celebrated senior night, alumni night, and homecoming. The first half saw the Cats struggle offensively on their way to only putting up 10 points against a very strong defensive effort by the Griffins. From this point on, the Cats played hard, but couldn’t make up the early defecit - Griffins win by a score of 66-44.
