It was rough day for the Wildcats yesterday. Several teams suffered from close losses. JV & Varsity Volleyball pushed their games as far as they could but still came away with losses, JV lost 2-1 while the varsity team gave up a 2-1 lead finally losing 3-2.

The Middle School Field Hockey team lost 3-0. The varsity team lost 1-0 to their conference rivals. The varsity girls will travel to Forsyth Country Day on Friday to take on the #1 team in the state.

Varsity Soccer lost a heartbreaker yesterday to the Blues. After getting behind 2-0, David Wood gave a little hope to the team when he scored with 24 minutes to go. A few minutes later CDS tied the game up giving new life to the team. The Wildcats fought hard but Asheville School scored with 3 minutes left to go dashing all hope for a victory.

The bright spot on the day came from the Varsity Girls Tennis team who won easily continuing their undefeated record in the conference. The girls will drive to Rabun Gap on Friday looking for another easy victory.

Varsity Soccer Wins, Field Hockey Loses

Varsity Soccer defeated Christ School for the second time this season. The first half saw goals exchanged back and forth between the two teams while the second half was controlled by the Wildcats. The final score was 4-2.

Varsity Field Hockey lost at Asheville School 1-0, Middle School Hockey lost 4-0.

This afternoon the soccer and volleyball teams will hop a bus to Swannanoa to take on Asheville Christian Academy. Middle School and Varsity Soccer both begin at 4:30, JV Volleyball at 4:00, and Varsity Volleyball at 5:00. Meanwhile, the Varsity Tennis team will travel back to Brevard to make up a match that was rained out earlier this season.

Rescheduled Games with Spartanburg Day & other changes

The games canceled on Friday have been rescheduled. The conference match-ups will take place on the following dates:
October 6 Spartanburg Day at Carolina Day
Varsity Tennis @ 4:30
Varsity Soccer @ 4:45 *Please note that the MS Soccer game scheduled for that afternoon as been moved up to 3:30 to accomodate the added varsity game and possible loss of daylight in the case of overtime play

October 16 Spartanburg Day at Carolina Day
Varsity Volleyball @ 4:30
Varsity Field Hockey @ 4:30

Other scheduling changes you should be aware of:
The MS Soccer & Varsity Soccer games at Asheville Christian on October 2 will both be played at 4:30.
The MS Soccer game on October 6 will now be played at 3:30.
The Cross Country Meet on October 14 will now be held at Christ School.

Tuesday’s Scores

The Middle School and Varsity Field Hockey teams hosted Christ Church yesterday afternoon. The middle schoolers started strong but were soon overwhelmed by the strong offensive attack brought on by the Cavaliers. The Varsity team played a tight game, keeping the score 1-1 until eventually giving up a point in the second overtime to lose 2-1.

Other teams traveled down to Shannon Forest yesterday. The Middle School soccer team continued its dominance, winning 4-1. Varsity Soccer began slowly, ending the first half 0-0 but goals by John Kim and David Wood in the second half sealed the fate for the Crusaders. The Wildcats won 2-0 bringing their conference record to 5-2.

The JV and Varsity Volleyball teams had a tough day at Shannon Forest, losing 2-0 & 3-0.

All teams will see a rematch of last Friday’s game this Friday against Spartanburg Day. That is also Fall Family Night so come out and watch your favorite teams and enjoy the other festivities going on at CDS.

There will be no practice for teams on September 24. Instead each team will have their individual and team picture taken by Lifetouch, the professional photography company that we use for the CDS yearbook. Parents will have the opportunity to purchase the photographs of their child. Student-athletes will need to bring their uniforms to school that day because pictures will be taken during regular practice time after school.

Much Needed Rain Interrupts Play

Yesterday’s much needed rain was much appreciated but stopped play in the following sports:

Tennis v. Asheville HS suspended and is in the process of being rescheduled;

Varsity Field Hockey v. Asheville HS stopped with Asheville leading 3-0. According NCISAA rules this was a complete game and will unfortunately go down in the L column for the Wildcats;

MS/JH Field Hockey v. Asheville HS delayed due to thunderstorm activity and finally played with the Lady Cougars taking the W by a score of 6-0.

Meet the Coach Night - Tomorrow at 530pm in the Upper School

The athletic department encourages parents of all fall student-athletes to attend tomorrow’s “Meet the Coach” night. Scheduled from 530-630 in the Upper School, this will be a great time to meet your son or daughter’s coach, gather information reagrding the upcoming season, and learn more about the Carolina Day School athletic program.

(Please note that if your son or daughter plans to play a winter or spring sport, you will have a “Meet the Coach” night closer to theie respective season(s) of competition.)
