Nancy Nash Stoutamire

It was a great treat hearing from everyone!

I was married to a Marine pilot for six years, and we had a son, David. We lived in Japan for a short while, then it was back to the east coast of North Carolina. In 1976 there was an aircraft accident, and Jerry lost his life at which time I moved to Tallahassee with my two year old son David. I did the mom thing: volunteered at schools, was a Cub Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, grandstand cheerleader for T-ball, soccer, and football. In 1983 I remarried a man named Jerry, (my first boy friend in 6th grade his name was Jerry too). Jerry had a son Jason that at the time was five, and my son was nine. The challenge of blending a family began. In 1986 our daughter, Elizabeth came into the world to take charge, and that she did. Before Elizabeth’s birth we did a lot of camping in the West. In 1989 I went back to work in Accounting for the state. This was an experience, since my degree was in education. I took courses along the way to get certified for the state of Florida, but with the University here I was only able to get a job as an P.E. aide. I taught PE in the morning and pulled students who needed extra help out of class to tutor in the afternoon. Unfortunately, this did not bring in enough money, so I became a hotline abuse councilor with the state, Children and Families. After 8 months I knew that was not for me. The boys grew up, Jason graduated from the University of Alabama and David attended F.S.U. They each have jobs in Atlanta and live together. Elizabeth started UGA this year, so I am experiencing the empty nest syndrome….oops, I left out that during my mid-life crisis I divorced Jerry after 19 years of marriage. My passion now is my spiritual journey, tennis, and new experiences. I am looking forward to our reunion….see you in October.
