Class Gatherings
St. Genevieve-of-the-Pines
Class of 1964
October 7 & 8
in Savannah!
All the plans are in place for our Fall Fling in Savannah! It's a good thing we picked the second weekend because the first weekend is Octoberfest and will be wild with revelers! Unfortunately, it was not possible to find a house for all of us to stay in and it was cost prohibitive for us to stay right in the historic district ($150-$199/night) BUT...we do have nice accommodations at the L a Quinta Inn on Abercorn about 4 miles from town for $62.00 per night. The inn provides a continental breakfast or there's a Denny's right next door. The trolley comes to the inn and f or a fee, you can ride into town with on and off privileges or there's a parking garage on Abercorn that puts you in touch with just about everything.
I've made arrangements for us to eat dinner on Friday night in the heart of the City Market area at Belford's where we can have a casual dinner outside, weather permitting. Then on Satuday night we'll be dining at Huey's on East River Street with a view of the water. If you've never been to Savannah, you're in for a treat! I've been numerous times and still haven't seen everything. There are numerous walking tours...His toric homes, Civil War, Gates and Gardens, Pubs and Taverns, a Ghost tour, a walk through "Midnight" and the Savannh Str oll. There are also carriage rides and trolley tours.
The riverfront area is dotted with shops and old inns. One of the most interesting things about Savannah is the number of squares in the city. The squares are called "the jewels of the city" and there are 20 listed on the map.
So far we have regrets from Joan, Millie, Kay Ramsey and Chris. (We'll miss you.) Gaye and Cynthia are possibles. Confirmed are Anya, Nancy, Mary Ann and myself. We need at least ten rooms to get the group rate so please let me know as soon as possible. When making reservations, please mention SGP or St. Genevieve's.
Savannah's such a great place, I don't want anyone to miss it! Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. (Maybe we can have our own Octoberfest!!) See you soon, Cathy
