Current Barrow Weather

Barrow Sea Ice Observatory and Ice Cam

Sunday 18 February 2007

It has been a very quiet day around here. Kivgiq lasted until 330 am, and folks aren't up yet. I went to brunch in the cafeteria and ate with Earl and Chris Finkler, whom I have met on previous trips. Earl is the voice and soul of KBRW , the local NPR radio station. Tune in and listen! It's like nothing else.

My excitement for the day was washing clothes. I put them in the dryer and went to supper. Apparently I forgot to turn on the dryer because when I came back they were frozen solid.

Tomorrow is a holiday for BASC, so it will probably be quiet then too. I was thinking about going for a walk, but polar bears have been around and I do not have access to a gun. I am only here for a short while, so it would be pointless to issue one to me. I was advised not to wander around unarmed and by myself. Good advice.
