Special Events

Students in grades 3-5 have the opportunity to participate in a Lower School Musical production each fall, with one performance for the lower school students and another evening performance for parents and friends. This is an exciting time for the students because it is a full musical production, complete with sets, costumes, and talented young actors.

The Holiday Concert held every December is an annual tradition guaranteed to create holiday cheer! Each grade performs songs and dances that honor different holiday traditions.

Grandparents' Day is an extra-special day for lower school students, their grandparents and families. The grandparents (or aunts, uncles, and family friends) visit the classrooms and engage in inter-generational activities. The students also perform for their guests, singing and dancing to a different theme each year.

On Field Day in May, friendly competition and skill are tossed into the ring with fun and frolic. Students engage in activities ranging from eating apples on a string to tossing water balloons. The slip & slide is the yearly favorite, of course. A good time is had by all and every child is a winner!

Young People Who Care is a lower school service organization. All LS students are members, and because of rotating leadership, everyone gets a chance to actively participate in planning various projects. Some of YPWC's projects include campus recycling and aluminum can collection, Trick or Treat for UNICEF, adopting families who need help, and community beautification projects.

The Lower School Dance is a favorite tradition. After the students participate in a lengthy dance unit in physical education, they invite their parents to join them in the school gym for an evening of line dancing, the twist, and the swing. This event has the potential to totally eliminate the "winter blahs."
