Global Studies Events

Our first school-wide International Festival happened on November 16.  A global studies committee organized and planned this special event and with the help of parents and teachers all students spent the afternoon immersed in a global experience.  The focus of the International Festival was on global knowledge and fostering respect for all cultures.  There were several international presentations and all students sampled international foods.

Cathy Walters IS the Teacher on the Trail

Pre-K teacher Cathy Walters has been chosen as the Target National Teacher on the Trail for the world-famed Iditarod. This is an incredible honor, and it is the result of an unbelievably competitive and demanding process. Cathy was one of three finalists last year, and when she didn't win the top honor, she decided to quietly go for it again this year. She has worked countless hours and created amazing curricular activities for teachers and students related to the Iditarod Race.

The next year will be extremely busy for our own Teacher on the Trail. She will teach at their summer conference for teachers in Alaska, she will teach and present at schools in Alaska for approximately ten days prior to the start of the Iditarod next February, and then she will fly from checkpoint to checkpoint during the race in March to report on it to the world via the Internet.
