Out & About Every so often we'll bring you a series of photos of some of the ordinary and not-so-ordinary events that take place at Carolina Day School every day. We're a busy place. Wednesday is opening night for Moby Dick! - The Musical. The upper school theatre department has been working for months to produce this hilarious musical comedy. The full-length musical runs Wednesday through Saturday nights with the curtain rising at 7 P.M. Check out coverage in the community section in this coming Thursday's edition of The Asheville-Citizen Times. These photos are from a recent rehearsal. Check the web later this week for a full photo feature.
Winter sports season has ended. The awards program will be held tonight at 7 P.M. in the Nash Athletic Center. (Refreshments start at 6:30.) The following photos cover some of the fan action and senior day basketball and swimming scenes from this past season.
You would be hard pressed to find a room filled with more dignitaries than the ones that assembled in the upper school auditorium recently. AP U.S. History students came dressed as historical characters from the past to enjoy a tea and conversations with the greatest minds of that era.
Key students have been immersed in their talents classes all year. This group had been working with PK teacher Cathy Walters to design and produce a quilt of famous North Carolina scenes for Cathy to take with her to Alaska. Cathy is at this very minute at the Iditarod races in Alaska as a finalist in the Target Teacher on the Trail competition.
You might have been amazed by the photo galleries of all the dances held during Valentine's week. Well, those impressive dancing skills aren't easy to come by. The lower school students learned and practiced their fancy moves during PE classes in anticipation of the Lower School Family Dance. PE teacher Jake Southern handled most of the steps but he brought in the pros for the final couple of days of instruction.
Sixth graders have been learning all about cells in their science classes. They wrote and produced a variety of skits to help them remember all there is to know about cells. You'll read more in an upcoming issue of Bell Notes.
And back to sports. The first grade Super Fans invited the middle school boys' basketball team to come down to their rooms before the last game of the season. The big guys read to the little guys, signed autographs, received goody bags from the first graders, and got a lot of friendly hand slaps as they boarded the bus for their away game.
As part of the middle school's "time to get excited" week--the teachers treated students to some breakfast pancakes. Students even got to wear their PJs to class.
The athletic department hosted Allan Williams recently. Mr. Williams presented an inspirational talk about lessons he learned from his four years as a walk-on basketball player at Wake Forest University.
Alan Williams posing with some new fans.
The middle and upper school students who attended the talk (a full house) were treated to some tasty pizza.
These Key School fourth and fifth graders staged their own egg drop competition recently. They have been studying engineering in one of their talents classes.
What a relief! Every year the new class of sixth graders tackles an impressive family history project. It takes months of research and weeks of preparation for each student to produce am incredible look at his or her family history. Parents are invited to a special dessert day to come and view the projects.
Valentine's Day is over for this year. There was excitement all over the School. And of course the teachers and staff would like to particularly thank the parents who put together the incredible luncheon. It was fantastic!
Some additional scenes from Valentine's Day.
Parting Shot... And even upper school boys get to have fun. These guys were playing a board game during a recent lunch period.
